Chief Editor - Hubpost BlogMost of my job at the MSU Hub was acting as chief editor for The Hubpost Blog. As the Hub was a new MSU unit, we wanted to create a body of work that was cultivated and contributed to by our staff. I was in charge of maintaining and adhering to the editorial calendar, guiding authors through the editorial process, assigning other coworkers to act as developmental editors, and finalizing all copyedits to the articles.

Outside Babylon EditsIn the summer of 2016, I edited the first three chapters of a friend's novel manuscript, adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style. Though we were unable to finish the edit due to financial constraints, it was a valuableexperience for me. Novels are one of my many passions, and using my skills to help a fellow writer take one step closer to publishing was a fulfilling way to practice my editing skills!

First Round CopyeditsAs part of an editing and publishing class at MSU, we students wrote reviews of grammar books at the beginning of the semester. As the semester progressed and we learned more about editing, we then did a multiround copyediting project with two other students. This was the first time I had ever done a multiround copyediting project, and it was really helpful in understanding the copyediting process. I made edits that I thought would make my friend's book review flow better, and she was happy with the results.

Medium CopyeditFor the same class, I did a medium copyedit of an encyclopedia entry that my professor intentionally messed with. I did multiple passes through the document to find areas of issue and made edits that I felt stayed with the encyclopedia's styleguide.

Developmental EditFor ing Magazine, I was also on the developmental editing team for the January 2016 issue. I developmentally edited Taylor Downs' piece about Unique Christmas and New Year's Eve Traditions. I made suggestions to her piece that I believed would make the piece more cohesive an understandable for our readers.
